How to Make a Jigsaw Stool

11 Dec

All those JET lathe machines, Wilton clamps and other woodworking gear in your carpentry is useless if you aren’t trying out new innovative things with the help of those expensive power tools. You should experiment more and try to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while to make a difference. Sometimes your efforts pay out big time and you end up with something that is not only good looking but quite useful.

Today we are going to tell you how to make a jigsaw stool that can add convenience to your professional as well as personal life.

Rip a 24 inch by 24 inch piece of plywood into 18 inch and 6 inch strips. Once you have done that, draw cross-hairs to locate the center of the larger board,. Drive a dry wall screw in the center and use that as a pivot point for swinging a 7 inch radius circle. Draw line 3/8 inch away from the cross-hairs on each side to create ¾ inch thick layout marks for cutting interlocking notches and installing the leg brace block later on.

Drill a ½ inch pilot hole in the lower notch and insert a fine tooth jigsaw blade and cut out the round top. Use your jigsaw to cut out the legs and the ¾ inch x 2-1/2 inch notches for interlocking the legs of the stool. Use a router with a ¼ inch round over b it to soften both sides of the top and legs except for those edges along the tops of the two legs. If you don’t have a router, ease the sharp edges with sandpaper. Cut the triangular blocks from the 6 inch wide cutoff and secure two of them to the underside of the top disc with glue and 1-1/4 inch all purpose screws. Slip the legs into place and secure them to the blocks using 2 inch screws. Add the other two triangular blocks and apply the finish of your choosing. You can apply a sanding sealer which is basically a dark stain and then a coat of polyurethane.

Now you have a great jigsaw stool that you can use for various types of applications. Remember that the safety should be your first priority. When using dangerous woodworking tools such as routers and such, don’t forget to read the instruction manual if you are a beginner and use it in accordance with the provided guidelines. Don’t try to tamper with power tools on your own and always wear the protective gear recommended for a particular tool or operation.
